Chemical
topologists try to make molecular objects with a non trivial topology.
These objects are special in the sense that they cannot be drawn on a
paper without releasing at least once the pressure of the pen.
Catenanes and knots are such objects. As they are made out of
interlocked rings, the synthesis of simple macrocycles is a
prerequisite to the synthesis of those complex molecules.
The
